Home Alarm Systems protect houses, flats and townhouses with detectors, a siren and usually a link to armed response or your phone. A good home system fits how your household lives: who comes and goes, where pets sleep, and which areas must stay armed while you are inside.
- Say whether it is a house, townhouse or flat.
- Mention pets and where they sleep.
- Say whether you want armed response linked.
Describe your home once and compare quotes for a home alarm.

Fitting the Alarm to Your Household
Stay mode at night
Stay or partial arming keeps the living areas, garage and outside protected while bedrooms stay unarmed. This is the setting most South African homes use every night.
Pets
Pet-tolerant detectors and careful placement help, but they are not a guarantee. Dogs that jump on furniture or climb stairs still trigger detectors. Tell installers the size and number of animals, and whether they are inside at night.
Indoor and outdoor detection
Indoor detection catches someone once they are inside. Outdoor detectors and beams warn earlier, while the intruder is still in the garden. See outdoor beams installation.
Users and routines
Separate user codes or app users for family members and domestic workers make it clear who armed or disarmed, and let you remove access without changing everyone's code.

Home Alarm FAQs
Can I arm the alarm while I sleep?
Yes. Stay mode arms selected zones, such as living areas and outside, while bedrooms stay off.
Will my dog set off the alarm?
It can. Pet-tolerant detectors reduce the risk for smaller animals, but placement, the size of the dog and furniture all matter. Discuss it with the installer.
Is a wireless alarm good for a flat?
Often. It avoids cabling and can be taken with you if you move. See wireless alarm systems.
Do I need armed response?
No, but without monitoring or response, someone has to react to the siren or app alert. See armed response.
Can the domestic worker have their own code?
Yes. Most panels and apps support several users, so each person can have their own code or app access.
